Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 28, 2026
BIA Edge is an immigration-law research platform built from public legal materials. This policy explains how BIA Edge collects, uses, and shares information through biaedge.com, the public API, and the BIA Edge MCP server.
BIA Edge is not a law firm service for users, does not provide legal advice, and does not create an attorney-client relationship. If you use BIA Edge for client work, you remain responsible for your professional duties, including confidentiality, informed consent, and independent verification of legal authorities.
BIA Edge maintains a separate Security and Confidentiality page for attorney-user security commitments and SOC 2 readiness status.
Information We Collect
We may collect:
- Account information, such as email address, display name, password hash, account status, login timestamps, failed-login metadata, lockout metadata, and optional MFA metadata.
- Research activity, such as search queries, filters, saved searches, collections, document notes, alert settings, API requests, MCP tool calls, and related timestamps.
- MCP and API access information, such as API keys or bearer tokens, OAuth identity claims, allowlist status, tool names, and operational request metadata.
- Access-request form information, such as name, email, firm or company, team size, AI tool, message, request URL, IP address, and User-Agent.
- Usage and device information, such as IP address, browser or client type, pages visited, request path, method, status code, timing, referrer, cookies, and similar diagnostic data.
- Email and alert information, such as email address, alert content, delivery status, send timestamps, and error information.
- Public legal-record information, such as case names, party names, citations, docket information, agency records, court records, and other information contained in public legal sources.
Do not submit Social Security numbers, A-numbers, passport numbers, dates of birth, medical records, financial records, client names, or other sensitive client-identifying facts unless you have determined that doing so is necessary and authorized.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- provide search, case-reader, saved-search, collection, alert, API, and MCP features;
- respond to access requests and support messages;
- authenticate users, issue API or MCP access, apply allowlists, prevent abuse, and enforce rate limits;
- maintain security, debug errors, measure reliability, and improve search quality;
- operate analytics and understand aggregate product usage; and
- comply with legal obligations and protect BIA Edge, users, and the public legal corpus.
BIA Edge does not use user account data, access-request messages, saved searches, website queries, or MCP queries to train foundation models. The MCP server is a retrieval layer. Your AI client may send your prompts, MCP tool calls, and tool results to its own provider, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, or another client, under that provider's terms and privacy policy.
Cookies and Analytics
BIA Edge uses cookies or similar technologies for authentication, session security, rate limiting, and site functionality. BIA Edge may use Google Analytics to understand public-page traffic and aggregate product interest. Marketing analytics are not loaded on privacy, security, terms, MCP access, MCP documentation, API, or authenticated/private-account surfaces.
BIA Edge does not knowingly sell personal information or knowingly share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Sharing
BIA Edge may share information with service providers that help operate the platform, including hosting, database, security, analytics, email delivery, logging, identity, and infrastructure providers. These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services.
BIA Edge may also share information if required by law, to protect rights or security, to investigate misuse, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or transfer of the service.
BIA Edge does not control third-party AI clients, identity providers, browser extensions, or email providers you choose to use with BIA Edge.
Public Legal Materials
The BIA Edge corpus is built from public legal materials. Those records may contain personal information because courts and agencies published it. BIA Edge uses those materials for legal research, citation, provenance, and source verification. If you believe a public record displayed by BIA Edge exposes information that should be restricted, contact BIA Edge with the source URL, document identifier, and the specific concern.
Retention
BIA Edge keeps account and user-created content while your account or feature use remains active, unless deletion is requested and no exception applies. Operational logs are ordinarily kept for no more than 90 days, unless they are needed longer for a specific security incident, abuse investigation, access dispute, legal obligation, or reliability issue. Access-request emails may be retained as business records. Public legal corpus records may be retained indefinitely as part of the research database.
Security
BIA Edge uses administrative, technical, and operational safeguards intended for professional legal research use, including HTTPS, access controls, authentication cookies, optional TOTP MFA, same-origin protection for cookie-authenticated browser mutations, revocable API keys, OAuth where configured, rate limits, minimized operational logging, and private-surface analytics limits. The current security posture and SOC 2 readiness status are described on the Security and Confidentiality page. No internet service can be guaranteed completely secure.
Your Choices and Rights
You may request access, correction, deletion, or export of personal information associated with you. You may also object to or opt out of certain processing where applicable law provides that right. BIA Edge may need to verify your identity before acting on a request and may retain information where needed for security, legal compliance, public legal-record integrity, or legitimate operational purposes.
BIA Edge will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.
To make a request, email chris@chrishammondlaw.com with "BIA Edge privacy request" in the subject line.
Children
BIA Edge is intended for legal professionals, researchers, and adult users. It is not directed to children under 13.
International Users
BIA Edge is operated from the United States. If you use BIA Edge from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States.
Changes
BIA Edge may update this policy as the service changes. Material changes will be posted on this page. BIA Edge will not retroactively use personal information for materially different AI-training or advertising purposes without appropriate notice and consent where required.
